I believe no child should live in fear.  Abuse is never  okay or excusable.  A child has the right to live free from fear harm  and control. When a child is abused, neglected or trafficked they may be  broken physically, emotionally, educationally and spiritually.  It is  important that we help these children to begin to heal and return to a  normal childhood.  We must start molding them to be healthy, viable  contributing adults. Children are our pride/joy and our future.

I became aware of the Human Trafficking Crisis and have devoted my life to fighting this terrible crime. This dedication to the fight against Human Trafficking Crisis drove me to become one the founders of “Save the Pearls”, a 501c3 non-profit organization. “Save the Pearls” is focused on stopping Human Trafficking by all mean necessary.

I feel that bringing awareness and having the ability to identify Human Trafficking is very critical in the fight against and the elimination of Human Trafficking. “Save the Pearls” is also committed to providing assistance to the victims of Human Trafficking in the Detroit Area."

Joining Save the Pearls has allowed me to continue in a space where I can  continue educating young people about the dangers of sex trafficking. I  have worked as a Program Assistant for a crises resource center and other  initiatives that focus on sex trafficking. These programs helped women  and young girls who have been involved in sex work (street-level prostitution, escort service, internet porn, and exotic  dancing), transition out of the lifestyle and began to make new choices  that will benefit their communities, families, and themselves. I have  also created and facilitated victim-centered and evidence-based  curriculum to usher victims from rescue to recovery.  The work against sex trafficking will always remain a very important  role for me.

The importance of our efforts can not be overstated. Often young people are harmed by someone they trust. Without organizations like Save the Pearls, many parents and caregivers would be unaware of how to prevent human trafficking.

Many would be unaware that such a thing event exists, let alone how to protect their child from it.

Our work is key to educating the community and raising funds to support organizations assisting survivors.

I am proud to be a leader in an organization making such an important impact on our community.

It starts with the will to make a difference.

"Every man is guilty of all the good he did not do." Voltaire

Human Trafficking impacts people across the world and right here at home. It is the largest criminal enterprise after drugs, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Human Trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery in which people profit from the control and exploitation of others. Traffickers use force, fraud or coercion to control another person, usually for the purpose of engaging in commercial sex acts, forced labor or other services. Victims include children and adults who are forced, deceived or coerced into commercial set acts and labor services against their will, with little to no financial compensation.

Save the Pearls was founded to encourage community action against this widespread issue that impacts all of our communities. Our board of directors is committed to volunteer action, prevention, and policy changes to make a positive impact in the lives of all affected. Our focus is on preventing new victims from entering the pipeline and assisting survivors in moving forward.
